Diploma in Information Technology

Vision:

        To create technically skilled and ethical IT professionals to meet the needs of industry and society.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

        PEO - 1 : Continue their formal education and acquire relevant graduate degree programs.
        PEO - 2 : Solve real life problems as qualified professionals with a commitment towards society
        PEO - 3 : Be a successful IT professional with ethical values and communication skills to work as an individual and team member.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSO)

          PSO 1 : Students will be able to develop stand-alone, web and mobile applications using the latest technologies, following professional ethics.

          PSO 2 : Students will be able to manage databases and information communication systems.

IT stands for Information Technology. It is the study or use of systems to store, retrieve, transmit and manipulate data. Diploma in Information Technology is a 3 years long diploma certificate program. After passing 10th standard, students are eligible to pursue this program.

IT: Introduction

We use devices such as computers and mobile phones to store, transmit, retrieve and manipulate information. IT is a branch of engineering that focuses on management of data and the devices used in this process

IT technology is being used in many areas of our lives! Directly or indirectly, IT supports various other sectors such as- business, education, healthcare, transportation, governance, commerce etc. 

Some important topics/subjects covered in this program are- networking, hardware, software, database management and data processing. 

This field has rapidly evolved over the past few years. It is growing at such a good rate that new technology is being introduced at frequent intervals and technology in use gets outdated quickly. 

These days, many organizations and institutes are heavily dependent on IT. They have IT system that makes work much more efficient for them. IT professionals are required by such organizations for development, maintenance and replacement of such IT system. Many organizations and businesses also have dedicated IT staff to care of such tasks.

Further studies and PG courses

After completing Diploma IT program, one may go for Bachelor’s Degree (B.E./B.Tech.) in IT Engineering. In most Degree Engineering colleges, certain percentages of seats are reserved for Diploma certificate holders. This entry is known as the lateral entry. Diploma holders with good grade may make use of lateral entry and join B.E./B.Tech.  IT engineering program’s 2nd academic year (directly). This way, Diploma holders may make the ‘D TO D’ switch and earn a Bachelor of Engineering/Technology Degree.

After that, one may go for Master’s education. M.E./M.Tech. program will enable one to specialize in disciplines within the Information Technology sector. If you are interested in management program, you may go for MBA program!

Career prospects and job opportunities

IT sector is closely related to other sectors such as software, hardware, networking, computing etc. Due to this reason diverse job opportunities are available in front of IT professionals. Countries like the USA, the UK and European Nations are outsourcing IT work to India. This means that there is decent job availability for IT professionals in India.

IT service providers and IT consultancies are the prime recruiters. Firms like TCS, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, L&T Infotech and Infosys are some of the well-known private sector players.

Telecommunications sector is another key area of employment. Government and private sector telecommunication companies such as BSNL, Vodafone, TATA, Reliance and IDEA have IT departments.

Since most businesses and organizations today rely on IT, most of them have IT departments and staff. IT Diploma Certificate holders may join such organizations and businesses (healthcare, manufacturing, education, financial services/institutions etc.). Self-employment is another good opportunity available in front of IT professionals.

Salary

Starting salary depends on a number of different factors. Prominent factors are- profile of the employer, employee skills & aptitude and grades attained by the employee. General starting salary is around 15-20k Rupees per month.
